The Chicago Wildfire welcome back Ross Barker as a captain for the upcoming 2020 season. The 2020 season will mark Barker’s fourth season in the league, and his second season as a captain for the Wildfire.
Barker has been a staple to Chicago’s line-up since his first season with the team back in 2018. In those two seasons he has combined for 55 assists and 53 goals in 24 games. He began his AUDL career in 2017 playing 7 games for the Madison Radicals.
Now a veteran and mentor to the younger Wildfire players, Barker shared some of his thoughts on the 2019 season.
“My biggest takeaway is that even when you have talent, you need to bring the energy every single game. You can’t take anybody lightly and need to embrace the grind in order to win. These are long games and you have to keep your foot on the gas for all 4 quarters.”
After falling short in the first round of the 2019 Midwest division playoffs, the Wildfire are determined to leave nothing on the table for the 2020 season.
“I’m looking forward to building off of 2019’s competitive foundation that we set. I know some of the promising young guys are ready to step into bigger roles this year and that’s exciting. Can’t wait to see how much people have improved their game come tryouts in January.”
Athletes from all backgrounds are invited to register for the combine and try out for a chance to make next year’s Wildfire roster. Wildfire 2020 season tickets are also on sale now through the team’s website.
